Darlene A. Hamstra's Obituary
Mrs. Darlene A. Hamstra, age 63, went to be with her Lord on Friday afternoon, January 7, 2011. She was born January 23, 1947 in Muskegon to John & Muriel (Thompson) Wiersma. She was “born and raised in Bluffton” and was a life resident of the area. Darlene enjoyed camping and traveling; and for twenty years, she and Jerry were season ticket holders for U of M football games. Darlene also had a love for cooking, and even published her own cookbook, “Darlene’s Favorite Recipes”. Darlene was a Certified Health Unit Coordinator for Mercy Health Partners, where she had been employed 40 years; and had previously been employed 2 years at Westshore Family Medicine. She was a member of Unity Reformed Church and was a member of its Lois Circle. Formerly, Darlene was an active member of Pine Grove Reformed Church where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and was involved with the Boys and Girls Club. On August 8, 1975, she married Jerry Hamstra and he survives her along with 2 daughters, Allison Renee (Aaron) Cribley and Sarah Lynn (Todd) Nelson, all of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, Austin and Collin Cribley; her mother, E. Muriel Medema; 3 sisters, Karen (Sam) Waalkes of Seattle, WA, Cheryl (Phillip) Colgan of Kennewick, WA and Mari-Lee (Roger) McKee of North Muskegon; her mother-in-law, Joyce Hamstra of Zeeland; sister-in-law, Nannette Hamstra (Jim) Brolik of Holland; 3 brothers-in-law, Stanley (Diane) Hamstra and Rick Hamstra of Holland and Randy (Joan) Hamstra of Grandville; several nieces and nephews and many friends who offered love and support through her illness. Darlene was preceded in death by her father, John, her son, Rollie VanHemert, in 1983; her father and mother-in-law, Gerald & Esther Hamstra; and by 1 brother-in-law, Kenneth Hamstra. FUNERAL SERVICES for Darlene will be held 11 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2011, at Unity Reformed Church, 1521 Porter Rd., with the Rev. Kyle DeYoung officiating. VISITATION with Darlene’s family will be 5-9PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey Street, Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231-798-1100). Burial will be in Lakeside Cemetery. For a more lasting memorial you are asked to consider the Unity Reformed Church Debt Retirement Fund or VNS Hospice or the Johnson Family Center for Cancer Care.
