I am honored that I was afforded the opportunity to get to know David over the past 2+ years. I will especially miss his smile and gentle wave that always drew me over to visit with him while visiting Goodwill. I am going to miss you my friend. Thank you for allowing me to be a small part of your life.
I've had the most wonderful pleasure of working with David for 14 + years. His smile will remain in my heart. I've had the chance to experience his love of painting over the years and he was so blessed when we found the Lakeshore School of Fine Arts and we were able to enroll him in the program. You could always tell when it was Tuesday and time to go to class. He has grown so much over the years from his pencil drawings to his ability to put life into his paintings. Last week when I was at art class with David he was all smiles sitting by his painting and he loved to show me what he was working on; my favorites have always been his landscapes. I can't help but think... David's unfinished painting is a reflection of his life: a creative work in progress. I will treasure the works of art David has shared with me which I have hanging in my office. You will be missed. Susan Griswold
When someone passes, it makes you look back on the life that person lead. It also makes you reflect on the positive impacts that person had on your life and the lives of those around you.
My Uncle Dave (my mom's younger brother) was born with Down Syndrome. It is because of his condition and the way he overcame it to live a fulfilled life, that will forever have an influence on me and how I go forward with the rest of my life. For Uncle Dave, life was simple. Make the most out of what life gives you. Love your family, surround yourself with those that love and support you, and focus on doing things that make you happy. For him this included bowling, going to the lake, spending time with my grandma, listening to Michael Jackson, and painting.
One of his gifts that we'll miss the most, is his passion for painting. A beautiful oil painting of his hangs in our house. He constantly challenged himself to overcame his own disabilities in order to share the beauty of our world with so many people.
Everyone who ever met him was greeted by a smile and knew immediately what a kind heart he had. It was this heart that ultimately took him from us at the young age of 46. He will be missed, but I find solace knowing that after 30 years my grandpa will finally be with him again. I love you Uncle Dave and miss you dearly. Please give our love to Grandpa. Rest in peace.
On behalf of the Dess Family, our deepest sympathy. God Bless you at this difficult time. You are in your thoughts and prayers.
