David Allen "Dave" Brott's Obituary
David Allen “Dave” Brott, age 77, passed away Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Hospital. He was born November 2, 1947 in Muskegon to Robert L. and Mary (Cripe) Brott and lived in the area his entire life. Dave was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War 1966-68. He received the Purple Heart Medal, National Defense Service Medal, Sharpshooter (Rifle) Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Combat Infantryman’s Badge, Vietnam Campaign Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal among others. Dave entered as a PFC-1 and was honorably discharged as a SPC-5. On November 6, 1971, he married Janet Faye O’Brien in Muskegon. Dave worked as a machinist for Brunswick Corp for 34 years and retired in 1999. He was a member of the VFW #7729 – Derezinski Post. He enjoyed hunting and fishing. He was an avid card player, especially a good game of euchre and cribbage. Dave enjoyed vegetable gardening and camping for a number of years. Survivors include his loving wife of 53 years, Janet F. Brott; his son, David (Mardi) Brott; 4 grandchildren, Marek Brott, Manon Brott, Sander Brott, Sheldon Brott; 3 brothers, Barry Brott, Keith (Carol Mayne) Brott, Jeff (Sue) Brott; 3 sisters, Marsha Phillips, Ellen (Mike) Stewart, Elaine (Charlie) Ash; 1 sister-in-law, Shelly Brott; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, Bob and Mary Brott; 1 brother, Robert Brott; his in-laws, Raymond and Barbara O’Brien; 2 brothers-in-law, Tim Phillips and Richard Cunningham; 3 sisters-in-law, Linda Cunningham, Patricia Brott, Beth Kelly Brott; 2 nieces and 2 nephews; and his longtime friends and Vietnam buddies, Lenny Stark and Mario Marino. The Family wishes to express their gratitude and thanks to the doctors and nurses at Trinity Health – Muskegon Hospital who gave excellent care to David. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, August 14, 2025 at Fellowship Church, 4220 E. Apple Ave., Muskegon, MI 49442, with Pastor Mike VanKampen officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. Interment will take place at Egelston Township Cemetery with Military Honors offered by the Michigan Amry National Guard and the Muskegon County Veterans of Foreign Wars Honor Detail.
