Most of my memories of Uncle David revolve around the family reunion’s and the horseshoe pit. After we moved to Texas (my parents were Jack and Loella VanDyke..she was one of David’s 11 sisters), we came back pretty regularly for the reunions. I remember him as being somewhat reserved actually but always quick to laugh. Always willing to go out of his way to be of assistance to those who might need it. I never got to hear him do karaoke I’m sad to say.
He and my brother Joe we’re close in age and we’re friends as well as relatives. I would usually see David when visiting Joe at one of the veterans establishments they visited. I don’t know the last time I saw him but sure thought I would see him again. I’m so sad that’s not going to happen.
It’s also very sad that all 12 of them are gone now. I can see them all together in my mind and in my memories and I imagine them getting along better than they ever have and that’s a wonderful picture.
Rest in Peace Uncle Dave and give my mom and all the girls a big hug for all of us.
With love, Tammy (VanDyke) Stewart
