David Lawrence Cooper's Obituary
David Lawrence Cooper, age 78, passed away in Muskegon on Tuesday, June 14, 2022. David was born on December 5, 1943, to his parents Clifford and Hazel (Gould) Cooper in Muskegon, where he spent most of his life. He graduated from Muskegon Heights High School and went on to take some classes at Muskegon Community College. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy. On October 30, 1981, he married the former Donna (Lihan) Hartman, and they spent 23 wonderful years together before she preceded him in death in 2004. David worked most of his life at Amstore, but also spent some years working for Flairwood and the City of Norton Shores. He was a part of many organizations throughout his life, including the First Catholic Slovak Union, Lithuanian Club, Polish Falcon, Polish Union, VFW Post 3256, and American Legion Post 69. He loved to travel, in his younger years he enjoyed camping with his family at Whiskey Creek, in more recent years spending time in Punta Cana or Cancun. He also enjoyed taking trips in his RV all over Michigan to follow the races. An extrovert, David was always the life of the party, whether it was sharing jokes and card tricks or dancing and singing karaoke. He was a fan of Fireball whiskey and Miller ’64, and he always did things his way. He will be lovingly remembered by his seven children: David Cooper Jr., Brent (Lyssa) Cooper, Mari Jeanine Cooper, Michelle Hartman, Lynn (Denise Muchna) Hartman, Jill Hartman, and Karla (Hugh) White; many grandchildren; partner of 16 years, Socorro Garcia; Socorro’s children: John “Pete” (Mindy Redmon) Ashburn and Vicki Ashburn; and many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents and his wife, Donna; two daughters: Dalinda Hyslop and Dawn Cooper; and all 11 of his older sisters. A GRAVESIDE SERVICE will be taking place at 11:00 AM on Monday, June 20, 2022, at St. Mary’s Cemetery in Muskegon, MI. After the service all are welcome to join the family for a social gathering with refreshments in David’s memory at the Tatra Hall (2526 6th St, Muskegon, MI 49444).
