David Brian McLaughlin's Obituary
David Brian McLaughlin, age 77, of Spring Lake passed away peacefully Sunday morning, June 2, 2024, at Freedom Village Rehab in Holland. He was born January 29, 1947, to Edward Thomas and Mary Parker (Hurd) McLaughlin in Watertown, New York. He has three siblings, older sister, Mollie Crumrine, brothers, Tom McLaughlin and younger brother, John (Bonnie) McLaughlin; and numerous nieces and nephews.
David received his master’s degree from Clarkson University. He began his career at Eastman Kodak IT department, then moving to the Fuqua Industries IT department. The opportunity to buy into the American Seating Company came up, which he did, and moved into their IT department, and in 1992 he was named President of the transportation products group, and also Vice President of Sales and Marketing. American Seating Company was his passion, working until his very last days. He was very well respected in the busing industry.
He married Jan Weller, on April 3, 1993, at Christ Community Church, and they shared a lovely home on Spring Lake. Dave enjoyed boating, NASCAR, watching the Hallmark Channel mysteries, his dogs, and of course a good glass of Crown Royal.
He is lovingly remembered by his wife, Jan McLaughlin, his stepchildren, Jillian Weller, Alex Weller, Ben (Michelle) Mitchell; five grandchildren: Connor Mitchell, Zachary Mitchell, Esther Mitchell, Louis Weller and Anna Weller. He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, June 20, 2024, at The VanZantwick Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 620 Washington Ave., Grand Haven, MI 49417. Friends may meet the family from 5-7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 19, at the funeral home. Memorial contributions to a charity of your choice are appreciated.
