I worked with Dee for 10+ years at In Home Help/Michigan Home Care, later known as Munson Home Care. We were foot care nurses, and i can say Dee really enjoyed our work....we met so many interesting people! She especially enjoyed joking and laughing with our clients, putting them at ease during their appointments.
Now those of you who knew Dee a few years back know that she was an outspoken, no-holds-barred kind of person. She'd 'tell it like it is' as she put it. Some of the memories i have of her are laugh-out-loud turn one's face red .......she could be blunt, and tell risque jokes and spar with the best of them. One instance i can actually relate here is at a nurse's convention held at Crystal Mountain quite a few years ago, and I don't remember any of the topics discussed, but what she said was not forgotten.
We had been waiting what seemed an interminable length of time for our dinners and it didn't help that the speaker was particularly boring, and had nothing whatsoever to do with our profession. When we were finally served our dinners----prime rib------ they were cold. And worse....no one seemed to get the degree of doneness one desired.
In short, many were very disappointed. But being the kind, compassionate nurses we all were, we hesitated as to say anything. NOT Dee! She stood up, and loudly proclaimed, "take this back....mine is MOOING!" A shocked silence was followed by snorting and barely suppressed laughter. "Well, it's true!" she said firmly.
And this is how I want to remember Dee....bold, sassy, tell-it-like -it-is. Because you knew where you stood with her.
I will not be able to attend the funeral, but I will be praying in the Spirit.God give her family and friends comfort, and peace.
