Debra C. DeForest's Obituary
Debra Corinne DeForest, age 67, passed away Thursday, January 16, 2025 following a courageous battle with cancer. She was born August 1, 1957, in Grand Haven, MI to James and Corinne (Porter) DeWeerdt. Debra graduated from Mona Shores High School in 1975 and over the years had been active on the Class Reunion Committee. On May 2, 1992, she married Kevin DeForest in Muskegon and he survives her. Debra worked as the Controller for Great Lakes Ford for many years until her semi-retirement. She was an avid online attendee of The Bridge Church in Spring Hill, TN, and would always look forward to their sermons each week. She loved shopping, cooking, baking, and doing arts and crafts. Her favorite time of the year was Christmas; she always enjoyed Christmas in Chicago with friends and family. She also loved to travel and listen to her favorite band, Alabama. Debra will be remembered as a party planner extraordinaire and always threw the best parties full of Mammy Magic for her grandchildren. But most of all, she loved spoiling her grandchildren and enjoying family time at their cottage on Middle Lake. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. Debra is SURVIVED by her husband, Kevin of Fruitport; three children: David J. (Emily) Willis of Nunica, Daniel F. Willis of Nashville, TN, and Jennifer L. (Matthew) VanDyke of Norton Shores; six grandchildren: Anorah, Audra, Kennedi, Ashlyn, William, and Benjamin; two sisters: Diana (John) Enders of Hastings, MI and Danette (Mike) Giddings of Muskegon; sister-in-law, April DeWeerdt; and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents and two brothers: Douglas and Dennis DeWeerdt. A celebration of Debra’s life will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 25, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral and Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100.
