Debra Sue VanDyke's Obituary
Debra Sue VanDyke, age 67, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 10, 2025, with family by her side. She was born on February 14, 1958, to Frank and Hermie (Lauman) DeBoer in Muskegon, MI.
Debra grew up in Muskegon and graduated from Muskegon High School with the Class of 1976. On October 16, 1981, she married the love of her life, William VanDyke. They shared 26 years of laughter, love, and countless memories raising their two sons, building a beautiful life together in Stillman Valley, IL.
Debra was a loving wife, proud mother, and adoring grandmother. She poured her heart into caring for her family and found joy in every moment spent together. Debra's legacy is one of steadfast faith in every season: a faith that was nurtured during her years at Unity Reformed Church in Muskegon, Hope Church in Rockford, and Kishwaukee Presbyterian Church in Stillman Valley.
Debra used her talents to bless those around her, sewing beauty and thoughtfulness together into gifts. During the day she enjoyed puzzles and reading, whether for fun or with her book club. As the sun finished its course each day, Deb appreciated few things more than watching the sunset over Lake Michigan—one of her favorite ways to enjoy the beauty of God’s creation.
Debra is survived by her sons, Matthew (Jennifer) VanDyke and Nathan (Priscilla) VanDyke; grandchildren, William, Benjamin, Audrey, Emery, and Micah; sister, Sandy (Bryan) Bytwerk; and many cherished friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Bill; her parents; and her sisters, Linda Bull and Marcia Cooper.
A Memorial Service will be held at 3:00 PM on Sunday, October 19, 2025, at Unity Reformed Church, 1521 Porter Rd., Norton Shores, MI 49441, with visitation one hour prior. Memorial contributions may be made in Debra’s honor to the MS Research Foundation.
Arrangements have been entrusted to The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444. Share memories with the family at https://www.sytsemafh.com.
