Don F. Morell's Obituary
Don F. Morell, age 95, passed away Thursday, January 6, 2022 in Muskegon. He was born on June 6, 1926 in Ludington, MI to Franklin and Martha (Metzger) Morell, and resided in the area for most of his life. Don was a Navy Submarine Veteran of the World War II. He was the owner of Morell Heating for 25 years, before retiring in 1988. Don was a lifetime member of the Submarine Veterans of World War II, the Submarine Veterans, Inc, and served on the Board of Directors of the USS Silversides for many years as he was instrumental in bringing the submarine to Muskegon. He also was lifetime members of the Eagles, VFW Post 446, American Legion Post 9. On July 1, 1961 Don married the former Margaret Brown, and she survives him after 60 years of marriage. SURVIVORS also include two children, Don B. (Marianne) Morell, and Gail Morell; three grandchildren, Samantha Morell, Keith Morell and Geoffrey Hicks; five great grandchildren, Brooklyn, Ashlynn, Ethan, Zoey, and Ashton; and son-in-law, Steve Hicks. He was preceded in death by his daughter, Ann Hicks; sister, Eldonna Tarte; and brother, L. David Morell. FUNERAL SERVICES will be 11 AM Wednesday, January 12, 2022 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St. Norton Shores, MI 49444 (231) 798-1100 with Pastor Aaron Gregory officiating. Visitation with the family will be 1 hour prior to the service, from 10-11 AM. Burial will take place in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. Memorial Contributions in Don’s name may be given to USS Silversides Submarine Museum will be appreciated.
