Donald L. "Don" Dewey's Obituary
Donald L. Dewey, age 60, passed away unexpectedly early Friday morning, February 12th, 2021. He was born on August 6th, 1960 in Detroit, MI and soon moved to Bellaire, MI with his loving parents Darrell and Fern (Moran) Dewey and big sister Beth. Growing up in Northern Michigan, Don attended Bellaire High School where he was in the band and played football. Don also enjoyed many outdoor activities including skiing and fishing, and was proud to have earned the rank of Eagle Scout. After attending Northwestern Michigan College for a short time, Don transferred to Grand Valley State College where he graduated with a BS in Nursing. Later, Don took a position at Mercy Hospital and was a dedicated RN for 35 years specializing in the cardiac cath lab. On January 4th, 1986 he married the former Darcy Porter in Muskegon, MI. The couple soon moved to the Grand Haven area and have called it home ever since. Together they cherish 35 years of memories filled with love and laughter. Don was talented at many things, but his true love was spending time with family and friends. Whether he was cheering on from the stands, running the score board at swim meets, coaching soccer, leading the scouts, teaming up with them to run a race, or dousing them relentlessly during a water fight, Don was happiest spending time with his family. All of these things and more would not have been complete without his best friend/partner in crime by his side. Together they enjoyed silversmithing, bon fires, playing euchre with friends, and trying to convert those friends to drinking beer/wine with “actual flavor”. He always wanted to be remembered for his unconditional love for not only his family and friends, but also for those to whom he proudly provided care. His easy going and fun-loving personality will truly be missed by all who knew him. He is survived by his loving wife, Darcy Dewey; 6 children, Tim (Jean Leav) Dewey, Kelli (Rebecca Raphealson) Dewey, Dakota (Kaitlynn Taylor) Mathews, Michael Clark, Joseph Patitucci III and Dylan Huffman; father, Darrell Dewey; sister, Beth (Jeff Stewart) Dewey; niece, Camille (David Mantleman) Stewart; sister-in-law, Dawn (Mark) Nicholas; mother-in-law, Sally Porter and many cousins. He was preceded in death by his mother, Fern Dewey, and father-in-law, Richard Porter. A limited visitation of 25 people at a time will be held from 5-8:00PM on Tuesday, February 16th, 2021 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, 49444. A private family service will be held. If you would like to virtually attend the service, you can contact the funeral home for the Zoom link.
