Mr. Donald E. Hofsess' Obituary
Mr. Donald E. Hofsess, age 82, went to be with his Lord on Tuesday, May 01, 2012, following a stroke on April 11, 2012. He was born in Detroit on June 2, 1929 to Clay and Beulah (Fitzgerald) Hofsess and remained in the Detroit area until 1966. Don graduated from Redford High School in 1947. He served his country in the U.S. Army in the Korean War from 1951-53. Don married the former Lucille Anderson on October 8, 1960 in Detroit. He worked as a milkman for Sealtest Creamery for 10 years. After moving to Muskegon in 1966 Don received his degree in accounting from Muskegon Business College. He then went on to work as an auditor for the State of Michigan Treasury Department for 23 years prior to his retirement in 1990. Don also served on the Zoning Board and as an election inspector for Dalton Township, as well as a board member of East Dalton Oakhill Cemetery. He enjoyed golfing, cutting wood, camping, and traveling to Hawaii, Alaska, and Japan. He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Lucille, his children, Joyce Hofsess of Muskegon, and Raymond Hofsess of Coopersville; 4 sisters, Helen, Margaret, Virginia, Annette (Gus); 3 brothers, Charles (Peggy), Steve (Terry) and Ron; sisters-in-law, Joan, Bonnie, and Gail. Don was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Janet Ann; his parents; and brothers, Bill, Fred, Clay Jr. and Wayne. Cremation has taken place. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 3:00 PM Sunday afternoon, May 6, 2012 at Dalton Baptist Church, 3777 Holton Rd., with Rev. Bob DeWitt officiating. VISITATION with the family will be one hour prior to the service (2-3 PM). In lieu of flowers, MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS may be made to Dalton Baptist Church or Center Lake Bible Camp in Tustin, MI.
