Don was one of my first mentors in banking when we worked together in 1970-71 at the Eastbrook branch of Old Kent Bank.
His love for his wife, Doris, and for his children was plain to see as he talked about them frequently. I enjoyed hearing about them.
Don had a great sense of humor. I remember that he once let slip to me that his nickname growing up was "Snooky.!". From that moment on, that was what I called him and we had many laughs about it over the years!
I could always tell when he had something on his his mind as he would pace back and forth. And when he really wanted to make a point, he would shake his finger vigorously while talking. I loved it!
Though my banking career would lead me away from Old Kent to other banks, I would see Don periodically and it was as if we were never apart.
Don Monterusso is one of the people in life that you can say you are very happy you got to know.
My deepest sympathy to his entire family.
Rest well, my friend. Until we meet again.
What a pleasure and privilege to become acquainted with Don and his family during his time at Hope's Harbor! Don always showed such kindness and helpfulness. His faith in God was so evident in the way he enjoyed singing hymns and participating in worship time. His love for his family shown through whenever they were with him. Don was a fine man, and we miss him greatly.
May you experience God's comfort and peace, and know that we hold you in our hearts and prayers.
Linda Ferguson and your friends at Hope's Harbor
We are sorry to hear of Don's passing.
Sincerely,

To Don’s family, so sorry to learn of his passing! We worked together at OKB and have many fond memories over years.
Uncle Don was an integral part of my life. The strong silent type he was a bedrock for the entire family. He gave me my first nickname which was ‘Pamwella’ and used it quite often when I was within hearing range. It annoyed me unmercifully and he knew it and enjoyed it!
The void his passing leaves is immeasurable. The memories he has given to us all priceless.
You are missed and you will be forever loved and remembered.
Love to you all.
