Donald R. Monterusso's Obituary
Donald R. Monterusso, age 82, passed away Saturday, August 31, 2019. He was born October 18, 1936 in Grand Rapids, MI to Joseph and Sophie (Kyowski) Monterusso. Don was a U.S. Navy Veteran and retired in 1993 after 29 years with Old Kent Bank as Senior Vice President and Manager of Consumer Loans. On May 2, 1959, he married the love of his life, Doris J. Kedrovicz, in Grand Rapids and spent 40 wonderful years together until she preceded him in death on March 27, 1999. Don attended St. Agnes Catholic Church in Marion, MI, was an avid sportsman and big game hunter, enjoyed watching football, traveling, and cooking. But most of all, he loved spending time with his grandchildren. SURVIVORS include 3 children: Dennis Monterusso, Debra (Philip) Blanchard, and Joseph (Elisabeth) Monterusso; 7 grandchildren: Melissa (Craig), Philip, Samantha (Tanner), Tony, Abby, Laura (Caleb), and Donnie; 4 great-grandchildren: Gabrielle, Charlie, Kaylee, and Isaac; sister and brother-in-law, Joyce (Joe) Manning; several nieces and nephews. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Philip Monterusso. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held from 11:00 AM until 2:00 PM on Saturday, September 21, 2019 at the Polish Falcon’s (957 W. Fulton St., Grand Rapids, MI 49504). In lieu of flowers, donations to the Alzheimer’s Association or the Harbor Hospice Foundation will be appreciated.
