Donald C. Nelson's Obituary
Mr. Donald C. Nelson, 89, was peacefully taken Home Saturday evening, June 7, 2014. Born September 18, 1924 to Aner and Kittie (Yonker) Nelson, he was a life resident of Muskegon. Don served in the US Army Air Corps during World War II, and was a long-time faithful member of Lakeside Baptist Church, where he served as a Deacon, sang in the choir, and played on the softball team. He was an engineer at Sealed Power Corp. for many years before retiring, had been a member of Muskegon Toastmasters Club, and had been an avid bowler and Detroit Tigers fan. Don married the former Karolyn E. “Pinky” Lundwall on October 10, 1953, and she died May 12, 2012. HIS SURVIVORS include his children: Dale Nelson of Muskegon, Kim (Mark) Somerville of N. Muskegon, and Kittie Lorentz of Monroe; 16 grandchildren: Ryan & Melissa, Eric& Carrie, Jason, Kyle, Kaitlyn, Kelsey, Maddie, Hannah, Heather & Ryan, Mark & Kristina and Ben & Roberta; six great-grandchildren; two sisters-in-law: Marion Nelson and Ruth Lundwall; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by six brothers and a sister. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be held for Mr. Nelson at 11:00 A.M. Wednesday, June 11, 2014 at The Walburn Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., Muskegon, MI 49441; phone 231-759-8565, with Pastor Leslie K. Lew and Pastor Andy Husmann officiating, and where VISITATION will be 4 to 7 P.M. Tuesday, June 10, 2014 and one hour prior to the service on Wednesday. Interment will be in Sunrise Memorial Gardens. MEMORIAL CONTRIBUTIONS to Lakeside Baptist Church Memorial Fund would be appreciated.
