Mrs. Doris Anne Bogema's Obituary
Mrs. Doris Anne Bogema, age 100, passed away Monday evening, March 3, 2014. Doris was born February 19, 1914 to Fred and Clara (Bolthouse) Bottema in Spring Lake, MI. She was a graduate of the Howell School of Business. On December 8, 1939, she married Manna Bogema and he preceded her in death on March 17, 1971. Doris was employed by the Achterhoff Mortuary as both secretary and receptionist from 1971-2004. She was a long time member of Bethany Christian Reformed Church, serving as their first woman deacon. Doris was also involved in Women’s Fellowship, serving as president, secretary and treasurer. She was also part of a ladies singing trio with Grace DeVries and Billie Flickema. Doris enjoyed the many trips to Florida with Rolland and Betty Achterhoff throughout the years. She also enjoyed all her travels with best friend, Vera Tregoning. Doris was kind, courageous, independent, wise and warm; a wonderful mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a blend of class, compassion, loyalty and love, who will be deeply missed by all those she touched in her life. Her survivors include her sons, David (Jane) Bogema and Don (Patricia) Bogema, all of Muskegon; 3 grandchildren, Katie (Scott) Giger of Carmel, IN, Kara (Eric) Steinke of Adrian, MI and Theresa (Scott O’Malley) Bogema of Hawthorne Woods, IL; 5 great-grandchildren, Grace and Noah Steinke, Emma, Andrew, and Micah Giger; and many nieces and nephews, as well as great-nieces and great-nephews. Doris was also preceded in death by her grandson, Rick Bogema; 2 sisters, Hazel Balgooyen and Ida Parpart; and a brother, Steve Bottema. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11 AM Friday, March 7, 2014 at Bethany Church, 1105 Terrace St., with Rev. David Sieplinga officiating. VISITATION will be Thursday from 4-7 PM at The Sytsema Chapel 737 Apple Avenue 231-726-5210
and one hour prior to the service (10-11 AM) at the church. INTERMENT will be Oakwood Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Bethany Christian Reformed Church.
