Doris A. Covell's Obituary
Mrs. Doris Anne Covell, age 84, died to this world and went to her eternal judgement (Kyrie Eleison) on Friday, June 12, 2015. She was born October 3, 1930 in Muskegon to Peter and Helen (Siuda, Shatney) Staffney. Doris was an active member of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church. She volunteered for RSVP and FIA, the Back Pack program at Glenside School and for many years planted petunias along Seaway Drive. On October 18, 1952 she married David R. Covell in Muskegon and he survives her along with 8 children: Victor Covell, David (Lois) Covell both of Muskegon, Mark (Nancy) Covell of Petoskey, Larry (Diane) Covell of Muskegon, Steven (Adrianna) Covell of Long Beach, CA, Marielen Covell of Louisville, KY, Douglas Covell of Portland, OR, Barbra (Derek) Gaff of Jacksonville, FL; 14 grandchildren: Bradley (Kristen) Covell, Sara (Anthony) Sclafani, Brandon, David, Matthew, Andrew, Eric, Kristina, and Lauren Covell, Chad, Colton, and Caleb Gaff, Molly and Katheryn Gibson; 3 great-grandchildren: Sawyer and Elliott Covell, Audrey Sclafani; beloved sister, Marie Greenwald of Muskegon; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend: Rita Sander. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter, Janet Covell; brother, Donald Staffney; 5 half-brothers: Jack, Bud, Jerry, Harry, and Ted Shatney; and sister, Isabel Stolt. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, June 17, 2015, at St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Philip P. Salmonowicz presiding. Entombment will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery. VISITATION with the family will be from 2-4 & 6-8 PM Tuesday, June 16, 2015, at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565 with a Scripture Service held at 6:00 PM. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, Doris requested donations be made to Every Woman’s Place or the St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church Relief Fund.
