Doris D. Kitchen's Obituary
Mrs. Doris D. Kitchen, age 84, loving wife, mother and grandmother, passed away Sunday, July 13, 2008 in Grand Haven. She was born on December 2, 1923 in Aberdeen, South Dakota to Charles and Ethel (Smith) Koplen. After moving from Aberdeen to Chicago, she settled in Muskegon where she married Russell Kitchen on October 30, 1948. During their nearly 60 years of marriage, her greatest joy was her family. Mrs. Kitchen was a 43-year member of the "Do Nothing Club" a group of former patrol mothers from their children's elementary schools. She worked many years as a voter registrar at Muskegon Township election polls. Upon Russell's retirement, they wintered in Texas, making many friends. Her favorite pastimes were watching birds, counted cross-stitch, crochet, and solving crossword puzzles. She is survived by her husband Russell, daughter Carol (Kent) Rubley of Grand Haven, 2 granddaughters, Beth (Rodney) Lloyd of Flint and Sara (Barry) Miller of Eastpointe. She is also survived by 2 sisters, Geraldine Larsen and Ellen Huffman and many nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by 2 brothers and 5 sisters.
