Dorothy G. Vink's Obituary
Dorothy Gearold Vink passed away on September 20, 2015. She was born on September 20, 1925 in Van, Texas to Robert and Vada (Campbell) Kindle.
She married Floyd Vink on October 5, 1945 in Montgomery, Alabama and moved to Spring Lake shortly thereafter. Dorothy was welcomed by a loving Spring Lake community, and made Spring Lake a home for her family, but Dorothy also maintained some of the traits Southerners are known for such as warm conversation, and being a good storyteller. A good story told by Dot often ended with her special smile - a smile you can still see in her children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
Dorothy was a long time member of the Mary Sarah Circle at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church and baked many a cake for church functions. Dot freely gave her popular recipes to those who asked; family recipes passing the test of time, and that were complete, excepting perhaps one ingredient; Dot's loving hands. Dot also was an excellent knitter and kept busy making afghans, hats and mittens for her family and friends. She would also share her gift of knitting through the patient teaching and encouragement of anyone who asked to learn. A gift where her legacy continues.
She and her husband were long time members of the trailer club, Happy Wanderers. They spent many a week camping in the group’s campground in Hesperia, Michigan and also enjoyed traveling through the USA with her family.
She is survived by her husband, Sons: David (Carla) Vink, Jerry (Michelle) Vink and Peter (Charles Bridgeman) Vink. Grandchildren: Clinton (Toni) Vink, Sarah (Donald “Erik” Hermann) Vink, Megan (Daryl) Salyer and Lauren (Chris) Wright. Great-grandchildren: Graham Vink, Grant Vink, Gabriel Vink, Ellie Vink, Caleb Hon, Wesley Salyer, Lily and Adeline Wright.
Funeral service for Dorothy will be 1 PM Friday, September 25, 2015 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church with Rev. Daniel Anderson officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at church. Interment will take place in Spring lake Township Cemetery. Memorial Contributions in memory of Dorothy may be given Spring Lake Presbyterian Church Food Pantry or Hospice of North Ottawa Community. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.vbkfuneralhome.com.
The family is being served by VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home of Spring Lake.
