For Doug
Forgive be, but there two stories in this tale, I could go on with many more but these two stand out in my mind.
I must start that Doug was my best friend. He was always there for me. In on one occasion we replaced the engine in my truck in 4 hours! She ran perfectly after that.
On another occasion; after long night on the road, Doug, I, and 3 other friends decided it would be a good idea to replicate the 5 Olympic circles in the thin layer of snow above the tar road with our full bladders. I was the first to start and made a perfect circle. The second, third, and forth did the same. That is when we saw the police car pulling up behind us.
Scott was in the middle of the road when he saw the cops pulling up, so he high tailed it into the woods while the police concentrated on the other four of us in Doug’s car. Of course alcohol was involved, and the first indication of trouble was when one officer opened the right passenger door and one of our buddies beer fell out and spilled on his shoes.
The other officer knocked on Doug’s window and asked for all of our drivers licenses and the remaining beer. They both walked back to their patrol car. After just a few minutes, Doug opened his door and walked back to the patrol car. I tried to stop him, but it was futile.
About 5 minutes passed and Doug came back, and sat down, looking straight ahead, and silent. A short while later the officers came back, gave us our licenses back along with a 6 pack of beer! They asked about the guy that ran away and we all played dumb, and could not tell what direction he had ran.
They told us to drive straight home and that they would start a search for the missing member of our group. It is safe to say that we did not hesitate to exit the premises!
About ½ hour the last member of our group came stumbling in to the house, the police had never found him, but Scott was not happy!
Here’s to you my friend, until we meet again:
