Douglas Snellen's Obituary
Mr. Douglas D. Snellen, age 52, passed from this life into peace with our Lord on Monday morning, October 10, 2011. Born in Muskegon on September 9, 1959, he was the youngest and very “special” son of Paul and Lorraine Snellen, who both preceded him in death. In his younger years, Doug attended and graduated from Muskegon Wesley School. He participated in Muskegon’s Special Olympics and won many first-place trophies for the swimming and running events. He was employed for many years by Goodwill Industries and became one of the highest scoring bowlers on the Goodwillies bowling team. He was also employed by KANDU in Holland for a short time. He loved to work and took pride in his accomplishments. He enjoyed camping, hiking, good food, drawing, writing, NASCAR racing, helping others, but most of all, spending time with his family swimming in Torch Lake. Doug is survived by sister/guardian, Phyllis (Jim) Wisneski of Muskegon; brother, Don Snellen of St. Augustine, FL; sister, Barbara Lambert of Ft. Myers Beach, FL; sister-in-law, Denise Snellen of Muskegon; several nieces and nephews. We will all miss his gentle ways, his happy smiles and the hugs he loved to share with everyone. The family would like to take this opportunity to express our thanks and gratitude to all of those who generously touched Doug’s life including Wesley School, Goodwill Industries, KANDU, Cecil and Kornoelje AFC Homes, Muskegon Community Mental Health, Muskegon Harbor Hospice and Hillcrest Skilled Nursing facility. He was blessed to have all of you in his life and his family was blessed to have him in ours. There will be no services but the family asks that memorial contributions be sent to Harbor Hospice in Muskegon. Arrangements handled by
