Dr. Mani Kurien's Obituary
Dr. Mani Kurien, MD, passed away unexpectedly Wednesday, Dec. 16, 2009. Born Nov. 4, 1942 in Kottayam Kerala, India to M.A. and Anna Mani, Dr. Kurien had lived in the Muskegon area where he served as a Hematologist and Oncologist continuously from 1976 until the time of his death, and was most recently employed by the Johnson Cancer Center. He is survived by his wife of 40 years, the former Sosa “Susan” Kuruvilla. Dr. Kurien was a member of St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Warren, the Muskegon County Medical Society and several other professional organizations. His SURVIVORS include his wife, Susan; two sons: Mani Abraham (Mary George) Kurien, MD of Rochester, NY and their son, Reuben, and Kuruvilla “Bobby” Kurien of Norton Shores; a brother, Mani (Miriam) Mathew of India; two sisters: May (Dr. Thomas) Mathew of Bloomfield Hills, MI and Roshan Kuruvila of India; his mother-in-law, Susan Kuruvilla of India; and a brother-in-law K.K. (Lovely) Mani also of India. His family and friends will remember him as someone who sincerely cared for others and was generous with his patients, family and friends. The FUNERAL SERVICE for Dr. Kurien will be held 11:00 A.M. Saturday, Dec. 19, 2009 at The Lee Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, 231 -798-1100 with Rev. Fr. Philips Sankarathil officiating and interment in Norton Cemetery. VISITATION with his family will be there 7-9 P.M. Friday, Dec. 18, 2009 and 9-11 A.M. Saturday. A PRAYER SERVICE will be held 8:00 P.M. Friday evening at the funeral home. Memorial contributions in memory of Dr. Kurien may be made to St. Mary’s Orthodox Church in Warren, MI or the American Cancer Society. “I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith.” II Timothy 4:7.
