Edward A. Schuiteman's Obituary
Mr. Edward A. Schuiteman, age 73, passed away peacefully at home on Sunday, July 21, 2019. He was born on April 26, 1946 to John and Donna (Backus) Schuiteman in Key West, FL. On September 22, 2006, Ed married Karen DeFrench in Muskegon. He enjoyed playing golf and softball, eventually umpiring for girls’ softball. Ed also enjoyed riding his Harley around the area, occasionally making cross-country trips with Karen. He loved going to local high school football games and often made his way to Detroit for the playoffs. Ed was a proud veteran of the United States Air Force, entering the service in 1964 and spending two of his four years in England as a fireman. After his Honorable Discharge in 1968, the military remained forever in Ed’s heart, specifically helping veteran’s when he could. Ed helped organize the Honor Flight Michigan in 2011 to honor WWII veterans. He also spent his time visiting with veterans under local hospice care. During these visits Ed would perform a “pinning ceremony,” pinning just under 100 veterans. It was no secret that Ed loved people and people loved Ed. His greatest pride and joys in life were his kids and grandkids. Ed will be dearly missed by his wife, Karen; children, Lorry, Trisha and Scott (Jamie); grandchildren, Danielle, Jack, Tosha, Zack and Bethani; brothers, Jim and Jerome (Pauline); sister, Phyllis; and several great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, July 27 at 12 noon at Fellowship Reformed Church (4200 Apple Ave., 49442). Visitation with the family will be one hour prior to service, from 11AM-12PM. Memorial contributions may be directed to Fellowship Church, Hospice of MI, or Harbor Hospice Foundation. Arrangements by The Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 737 E. Apple Ave, Muskegon, MI 49442. Please sign the family’s online guestbook at www.sytsemafh.com.
