Elinor C. Wiersma's Obituary
Elinor Clarice Wiersma, age 82, of Spring Lake went to be with her Lord and Savior on December 14, 2013. She passed away peacefully at home following a long battle with cancer. She was born September 26, 1931, in Nunica to Albert and Elsie (Holtrop) Wezeman.
Elinor was a 1949 graduate of Coopersville High School and attended Calvin College prior to beginning her teaching career. She taught at Muskegon Christian School for several years and spent many years lovingly caring for her family. Elinor was a member of Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church. She enjoyed traveling and reading, and she especially enjoyed spending time with her family and her grandchildren.
Elinor married Burnie C. Wiersma on August 20, 1954, in Spring Lake, and he survives her along with four children: Jeanne (Jeffrey) Weenink of Essexville, MI, Charles (Julie) Wiersma of Converse, Texas, David Wiersma of Grand Haven, and Lynn (Jeffrey) VanDyke of Grand Haven; eleven grandchildren: Jenneke, Justyne and Jaime Weenink, Chris, Chet, Mitchell and Nicole Wiersma, Tyler and Parker Wiersma and Ellie and Gwen VanDyke; five sisters: Dorothy (Marshall) Teunis, Carolyn (Lee) Baas, Irene (Al) Bishop, Marilyn (Paul) Webster, and Pat (Ron) Kendzierski; three brothers: Alvin, Henry (Nancy), and John Wezeman, Sister-in-law Helen Wildschut and many nieces and nephews.
The funeral service for Elinor will be held 11:00 AM Thursday, December 19, 2013 at Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church with Rev. Drew Sweetman and Rev. Jeff Weenink officiating. Friends may meet the family 2-4 and 6-8 PM Wednesday, December 18, 2013 at VanZantwick Bartels Kammeraad Funeral Home in Spring Lake. Interment will be in Spring Lake Township Cemetery. Memorial contributions in memory of Elinor may be given to Spring Lake Christian Reformed Church or to Muskegon Christian School.
