Ella "Katherine" Maitner's Obituary
Mrs. Ella Katherine Maitner, age 88, passed away peacefully with her family by her side on Friday, January 28, 2022 after a long fight with Alzheimer’s. She was born on May 5, 1933 to James and Ester (Koski) Corgan in L’Anse, MI. As a child, Katherine’s family moved down to Muskegon, and she continued to live in the West Michigan area. Katherine started working as an elementary teacher in the Mona Shores School District. She then went back to MSU to receive her master’s degree, something she was incredibly proud of, and continued her career as a school social worker. On January 26, 1973 Katherine married Francis Maitner and they shared 20 wonderful years together before he passed away on June 14, 1993. She was a longtime parishioner of St. Francis de Sales Catholic Church where she was very involved in various church events and groups. Katherine had a kind, generous soul and always wanted to help anyone around her. She loved entertaining friends and family at her many backyard picnics. Katherine also enjoyed traveling, playing tennis, and tending to her beautiful flower gardens. She was a loving, caring mother and grandmother and will be missed by her sons, Joel Maitner, David (Michelle) Maitner, and Robert (Regina) Maitner; grandchildren, Kyle, Zachary, Makayla, and Eliza; sister, Mary Putman; and many nieces and nephews and their families. Along with her husband, Frank, Katherine was also preceded in death by her five brothers and one sister. Visitation with the family will one hour prior to the service, from 10:00AM – 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions in Katherine’s memory may be made to Catholic Charities USA.
