Ellen E. Haines' Obituary
Ellen Elizabeth Haines, age 95, passed away in Twin Lake, MI, on Wednesday, November 6, 2024. Ellen was born in Flint, MI, to Glen and Ila (Updegraff) Gibson on February 17, 1929. She graduated from Muskegon High School in 1947 and went on to work a long career as a bank bookkeeper, retiring in 1991. On October 9, 1954, she married Charles Haines, and the two of them spent 57 wonderful years together until he preceded her in death in 2012. Ellen loved working on crossword puzzles, feeding the birds, and watching Detroit baseball, hockey, and football. She loved playing piano, and she instilled a love for music in her family as well. She was the family historian, and she made sure to pass along their family history to her children and grandchildren. She loved her family deeply, and always attended her children and grandchildren’s events as they grew up.
Ellen will be lovingly remembered by her two sons: Steven (Lisa) Haines and David (Jeanine) Haines; five grandchildren: Rebecca, Laura, Gregory, Brooke, and Kiersten; as well as many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was preceded in death by her parents, Glen and Ila Gibson; husband, Charles Haines; and two brothers: Gordon (Kay) Gibson and Donald (Jacqueline) Gibson.
A FUNERAL SERVICE will take place for Ellen at 2:00 PM on Tuesday, November 12, 2024, at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI, 49444, with VISITATION taking place an hour prior.
