Ellen Jane Slater's Obituary
Mrs. Ellen Jane Slater, age 94, passed away Tuesday evening, July 1, 2008. She was born June 4, 1914 in Oscoda, MI to John and Pearl (Shaw) Goudy. Mrs. Slater worked 30 years as a school secretary in the Grand Rapids School System. She was a member of the Grand Rapids Audubon and Newaygo County Audubon Clubs. Ellen loved nature and took many photographs, which she assembled into slide programs given to interested groups. Mrs. Slater was also a member of Lakeside United Methodist Church in Muskegon. SURVIVORS include 2 sons, Edward (Alice) Slater of Tomah, WI, Gerald (Raejean) Slater of Kalamazoo, MI; several grandchildren, great and great-great grandchildren; 2 sisters, Kathleen Ogle of Morrow Bay, CA, Margaret Waldron of Birmingham, MI; many nieces and nephews; and a special friend, George Wickstrom of Muskegon. She was preceded in death by her husband, Fred Slater. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Tuesday, July 8, 2008 at Lakeside United Methodist Church with Rev. Sandi Harryman officiating. VISITATION will be one hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to Lakeside United Methodist Church or the American Cancer Society.
