Emily Ann "Emmy" Matejovitz's Obituary
Emily Ann “Emmy” Matejovitz, age 16, passed away Friday, December 27, 2024 at Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital. While we mourn the death of this beautiful soul, we also take comfort in the fact that Emmy has given a second chance to at least 3 people by the donation of her organs. Emmy was born June 19, 2008 in Grand Rapids, MI to James L. and Rebecca A. (Matejovitz) Smith and recently moved to the Muskegon area. Emmy was currently a student at Reeths-Puffer High School and was planning to attend Ferris State University to pursue a career as an ultrasound technician because she had a tender heart for babies. Prior to moving to Muskegon, Emmy had been active at East Kentwood High School and participated in travel softball and the Grand Rapids First Youth Group. She also worked seasonally in the Ice Cream Shop at Crystal Springs Country Club in Kentwood. Survivors include her parents, James and Becky Smith; her sister, Ashley Matejovitz; her brother, Zander Smith; her grandparents, Jim and Agnes Smith, Tom and Vickie Matejovitz; her aunts and uncles, Scott and Kimberly Smith, Jennifer Smith, Tara and Travis Murray, Allen and Amy Matejovitz, Tyler and Becca Matejovitz. A Memorial Service will be held 11:00 AM Saturday, January 11, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Pastor Christy Lipscomb officiating. Interment will take place at Laketon Township Cemetery. Visitation will be held 4-7 PM Friday and one hour prior to the service on Saturday.
