I remember my Dad as being kind, compassionate and charitable. He worked hard all of his life to provide for his family, but he never forgot about those who were less fortunate. He believed in his Christian values and lived his life by them. He has been a great role model and a loving father to me and I miss him dearly.
He was a great Dad. He worked a lot when we were growing up, but he always made sure that we had sand in our sandbox and saved us from bullies. He even set his alarm to wake up at 2:00 AM in the winter so that he could flood our ice rink, even though he had to be at work early.
He started Haase Hardware when we were young and put in long hours. I remember working Saturday mornings when I was probably eight years old. He paid me a quarter an hour to weigh up one-pound bags of nails. He ran the hardware for decades and was the last remaining hardware in Muskegon. He persevered where others failed, partly because he made good business decisions, but party, too because he was good to his customers.
He was a good man and a good father. He lived a good long life, and he was there to take care of my Mom when she needed him so much. I wish we had more time together, but I'm grateful for the times we did have. I love you Dad; you will be missed.
Love,
Bob
