Eugene L. "Gene" Thorsen's Obituary
Mr. Eugene L. “Gene” Thorsen, age 83, passed away Saturday morning, January 16, 2010 in Muskegon. Gene was born July 9, 1926 to Kristen and Irene (Gonyo) Thorsen in Muskegon, and was a life long resident. He was the former owner of Muskegon Automotive Supply, Inc. and was a U.S. Navy veteran of WWII and the Korean War. On April 19, 1950 he married Elinor “Ellie” Rooks, and she preceded him in death on September 27, 1999. SURVIVORS include 1 daughter and her family, Lori and husband Jim Drelles of Grand Rapids, and their children Matthew and Kelly Drelles; 1 son and his family, Kris and wife Julie Thorsen of Twin Lake, and their children Melissa (Justin) Griffin, Erik (Whitney) Thorsen, and Rebekka Thorsen; 1 great-grandchild, Korynn Griffin; 2 sisters-in-law, Shirley Thorsen and Shirley McCartney; his loving companion of the last 10 years, Rose Kellogg and her family; and finally Gene and Rose’s beloved wiener dog Sammy. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held at 11:00 AM Saturday, January 23, at Laketon Bethel Reformed Church, with Rev. Dr. Sherwin Brantsen and Rev. Lewis H. Glick officiating. Burial will take place at Sunrise Memorial Gardens.
