Patty, Eric, Andrea, I just wanted to write a few memories of Gene and I in our younger years. Gene was about 10 years old, and I was around 8. Grandma Huston told me and Gene that if we both got A's and B's on our report card she would buy us both a brand new Schwinn bicycle. Gene of course got all A's and I got A's and B's. Grandma and Grandpa Huston did buy us those bikes, Gene's was red with white stripes and mine was white with pink stripes. We rode them constantly. One night we left them out on the driveway and didn't put them in the garage. The next day we went to get them out of the garage and they weren't there. We remembered that we didn't put them in the garage. I started crying because someone stole our bikes, and I knew we were in BIG trouble. Gene said "Come on, we're gonna find them before anyone knows what happened. We walked down every street looking for them, we did find them laying on a gravel pile in someone's yard. We took them home and washed them so no one would see that they were all dirty and banged up. I think grandma did ask me why I had scratches on my bike after that, and I told her I fell down with it. Gene was always protecting his little sister not only then but when all the neighborhood boys would be bullying me. He did have a kind heart, also calling after my back operation to wish me a speedy recovery. I will miss him. Just wanted to share some of my memories of Gene with all of you. God Bless you all today, and your grieving days ahead, but know we are all here for you---always. Aunt Chris.##imported-begin##Chris Egeler- Wellman##imported-end##
