Eunice G. Volkers' Obituary
Mrs. Eunice G. “Eun” Volkers, age 74, went to be with her Lord on May 27, 2011. She was born in Ravenna, MI on September 17, 1936, to Sylvester and Hilma (Pietila) Kantola, and resided in the Muskegon area all of her life. She was a member of Spring Lake Presbyterian Church. She graduated from the Hackley School of Nursing in 1957. From 1957 – 1996, she worked in a variety of different nursing assignments. The last 17 years were spent working with her nephew, Dr. David Veeneman, in his pediatric practice. On June 27, 1964, she married Dale Volkers. Their 46 years of marriage were spent enjoying road trips, adventures at the cabin, and roaming the Upper Peninsula. They shared a love for animals (especially their dogs) and the outdoors. She is survived by her loving husband Dale, and her siblings, Edna Johnston, Rudy (Arzella) Kantola, Thomas “Bill” (Christine) Kantola, Gert Veeneman, Gladys (Ralph) Rogers, Elizabeth Campbell, (Ruth) Kantola-Paul, (Aggie) Kantola and (Marge) Kantola; brother-in-law Paul (Nancy) Volkers. Eunice was preceded in death by her brothers, Arthur, Arnold, and Alfred Kantola; and brothers-in-law, John Campbell,Melvin Veeneman and Ralph Johnston. She will be dearly missed by her many nieces, nephews and friends. The FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11AM Wednesday, June 1, 2011 at Spring Lake Presbyterian Church (760 E. Savidge St.) with Rev. Dan Anderson officiating. VISITATION with the family will be 2-4 & 6-8PM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc. 6291 S. Harvey St. 231-798-1100 Burial will take place in Moorland Twp. Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Lodge/Hospice or Spring Lake Presbyterian Church.
