Evelyn M. Nelson's Obituary
Evelyn M. Nelson, age 101, went to be with her Lord on Tuesday, March 15, 2017. She was born on February 25, 1916 to Russel and Mary (Rockel) Burns in Fremont. Evelyn was a former member of Lakeside United Methodist Church where she taught Sunday School for 25 years, led children’s choir and took part in Women’s Circle. She also was known as the Pie Lady of Lakeside and was a girl scout leader. On September 22, 1934, she married H. Ernest Nelson and he preceded her in death in 1967. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Leida (Charles) Thies, Wanda Hoffman, Gary (Linda) Nelson and MeriJo (Joel) Dulyea; 7 grandchildren, Kenneth (Elizabeth) Thies, Todd (Lisa) Hoffman, Cynthia Ross, Daniel Hoffman, Jennifer Schofield, Robin Schofield and Jill (Brandon) Bolde; 5 great-grandchildren, Joshua, Jonathon and Timothy Phillips, Benjamin Thies and Leighann Knapp; 5 great-great-grandchildren; brother, Jack (Mae) Vinton. She was also preceded in death by parents, step-father, Adelbert Vinton; brother, Richard; twin-sister, Ethelyn and son-in-law, Norman Hoffman. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00am Tuesday, March 21, 2017 at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd, 231-759-8565. VISITATION with the family will be an hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations to Alzheimer’s Association of MI or the local Kids’ Food Basket. Burial will take place at Lakeside Cemetery.
