Filomena "Minnie" Girocco Tardani's Obituary
Mrs. Filomena “Minnie” (Girocco) Tardani, age 106, passed away Sunday, January 4, 2009 in Muskegon. She was born April 13, 1902 in Bessemer, MI, to Rocco and Mary (Andreano) Girocco and lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. On June 30, 1917, she married Louis Tardani in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on July 31, 1975. Minnie was a proud homemaker and her entire life was dedicated to her husband and her family. She was the last surviving Charter Member of Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church where she was an active and contributing parishioner for the majority of her life. Minnie had also volunteered for many years at Youth Haven and during the war, at the USO Center in the YMCA. She is survived by her son, William L. Tardani of Muskegon; 4 grandsons, Richard (Joyce) Tardani, Robert (Lisa) Tardani, William (Kelly) Tardani, and Anthony Tardani; 4 great-grandchildren and 2 great-great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Along with her husband, Louis, she was also preceded in death by her son, Robert M. Tardani in 2008, 4 sisters, and 6 brothers. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Our Lady of Grace Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Michael P. Olson as celebrant. ENTOMBMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum. VISITATION with Minnie’s family will be 4-8 PM Wednesday at The Sytsema Chapel, Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210.
