Florence A. (Schaner) Mason's Obituary
Mrs. Florence A. (Schaner) Mason, age 97, passed away Tuesday, September 6, 2011 at a local nursing home. She was born September 28, 1913 in Weare Township, MI to Nicholas and Josephine (Stein) Schaner lived in the Muskegon area most of her life. She married William D. Mason in Muskegon in 1935 and he preceded her in death in 1957. Florence worked 25 years as a sales clerk for Hardy-Herpolsheimer’s Department Store and retired in 1978. She was a member of St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church and was active in the altar society and the CCWD. Florence also volunteered for Hackley Hospital as a Eucharistic distributor and was also active around St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church. SURVIVORS include 7 children, William D. (Sandra) Mason of Haslett, MI, Annette (John) Ramirez of Muskegon, Earl (Jane) Mason of Vicksburg, MI, Nicholas (Floria) Mason of Muskegon, Shirley Mason of Portland, OR, Eugene Mason of Muskegon, Patrick (Carol) Mason of Muskegon; 18 grandchildren and 26 great-grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by her parents, 1 brother and 4 sisters. MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 10:00 AM Saturday, September 10, 2011, at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum as celebrant. ENTOMBMENT will take place at St. Mary’s Mausoleum. VISITATION will be 4-7 PM Friday at The Sytsema Chapel, 737 Apple Avenue, (231) 726-5210. The Rosary will be prayed at 6:00 PM Friday evening at the funeral home. Visitation will also be held 9-10 AM Saturday at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be directed to St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church Window Restoration Fund, Christian Care Nursing Center or Harbor Hospice.
