Fredrick James Schaallema's Obituary
Fredrick “Fred” James Schaallema, age 68, passed away Saturday, September 6, 2025 at Trinity Health – Muskegon Hospital. He was born October 4, 1956 in Muskegon to John and Rose (Buchner) Schaallema and was a lifelong resident of the area. Fred married Louise J. Pouch on April 23, 1982 in Spring Lake, MI. Prior to retiring in 2018, he drove truck for High Grade Concrete Products for 35 years. Fred was an avid outdoorsman and enjoyed hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed his time in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan spending time at the family cabin in Hulbert, MI or watching the ships in Sault Ste. Marie, MI. Fred made it a priority to attend his granddaughter’s sporting activities. Survivors include his loving wife, Louise Schaallema; his son, Ken Schaallema; his granddaughter, Brianna Rose Schaallema; his sister, Joyce (Chris) Housler; 2 brothers-in-law, Ed (Sue) Pouch, Joe (Cindy) Pouch; 3 sisters-in-law, Ellen (Lee) Kirkpatrick, Gail Goldberg, Janna (Bill) Bordeaux; and several nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents, 1 sister, Barb Mischler; 1 brother, Don Schaallema; 1 sister-in-law, Luanne Vannette; and 1 brother-in-law, Brian Goldberg. A Funeral Service will be held 11:00 AM Friday, September 12, 2025 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St, Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Pastor Aaron Gregory officiating. Visitation will be held 5-7 PM Thursday and one hour prior to the service on Friday at the funeral home. Interment will take place at Pine Hill Cemetery in Fruitport.
