GARY L GILCHRIST's Obituary
Gary L. Gilchrist, age 63, passed away unexpectedly, Wednesday morning, May 2, 2018 at Mercy Hospital. He was born to Robert and Beverly Gilchrist on October 26, 1954; and had been a life resident of the Muskegon and Whitehall area. Gary was an avid hunter who loved his family deeply. Gary worked as a welder at Neway Anchorlok, Int’l, for 25 years; and was a Union Leader for Local #1703. Gary loved all things outdoors; hunting, camping, yard work and just strolling through the woods. He was a jack of all trades. He worked on cars, built homes, repaired everything. You needed it fixed, he knew how to do it. On February 8, 1974, he married the love of his life, Chris Amaya, and she survives him along with their two daughters, Kerry (David) Bell of Whitehall and Staci Gilchrist of Muskegon; 2 grandchildren, Alex and Malaina Bell; 6 siblings, Michael Gilchrist, Laschelle (Roger) Balcom, Mark (Anita) Gilchrist, James (Laura) Gilchrist, Tammie Sochowski and Bennie Sochowski; his in-laws, Maria (Pete Garza) Amaya, Lydia Amaya, Yola (Mark) Ruhstorfer, Eva Amaya, John (Sheila) Amaya and Theresa (Kyle Amadon) Amaya; and by numerous nieces, nephews and friends. Gary was preceded in death by his granddaughter, Jocelyn Bell, parents and brother Robert Gilchrist. A MEMORIAL SERVICE will be held 11:00 AM Monday, May 7, 2018 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Svcs., 6291 S. Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49441, 231-798-1100. VISITATION with Gary’s family will be 1 hour prior to the service. In lieu of flowers, you are asked to consider St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital.
