Genevieve M. Jalovec's Obituary
Mrs. Genevieve Mary Jalovec, age 97, passed away Sunday, September 14, 2014 at the Poppen Residence. She was born march 8, 1917 in Shelby, MI to Angus and Amy (Deschamps) Somers; and has been a life resident of the Muskegon area. Genevieve was a member of St. Thomas Catholic Church where she had been a 50 year choir member. She had also volunteered at Brookhaven Medical Care. On November 30, 1933 she married Carl Jalovec and he preceded her in death on November 9, 2013, after almost 80 years of marriage. SURVIVORS include 4 children, Carl R. Jalovec of Muskegon, Shirley (Tony) Brooks of Indianapolis, IN, Charles (Chris) Jalovec of Williamsburg, VA and Valerie (Craig) Westedt of Cookston, OK; 16 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren and 9 great-great-grandchildren. Genevieve was also preceded in death by her daughter-in-law, Elizabeth “Kelly” Jalovec and 15 brothers and sisters. The MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be celebrated 11:00 AM Thursday at St. Thomas Catholic Church ,3252 Apple Ave. Muskegon, MI 49442, with the Rev. Fr. Antony Britto presiding. Burial will be in Egelston Twp. Cemetery. VISITATION with Genevieve’s family will be 6-8:00PM Wednesday at the Sytsema Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Venue, Muskegon, MI 49442 (231-726-5210) where the ROSARY will be prayed at 6:00PM.
