Genevieve Rose "Donnie" Rajewski's Obituary
Genevieve Rose “Donnie” Rajewski, age 99, passed away Friday evening, October 28, 2016. She was born November 15, 1916 in Manistee, MI to Joseph and Julia (Dufon) Oleniczak. Mrs. Rajewski had worked for the St. Michael School lunch program as a lunch lady for 15 years before retiring in 1974. On August 24, 1940, she married Mitchell Rajewski in Freesoil, MI and he preceded her in death on December 3, 1971. She was a member of St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church and belonged to the Rosary-Altar Society. Mrs. Rajewski enjoyed reading, doing crossword puzzles, and crocheting. She was a fabulous cook and loved to travel. Genevieve was the last remaining member of her bridge club, which she had belonged to for over 60 years, and also loved playing card games with her grandchildren. SURVIVORS include 5 children: Marilyn Mapes of Freeland, MI, Elaine (Richard) Brothers of Norton Shores, Thomas (JoAnn) Rajewski of Auburn, MI, Gloria (Edward) Kern of Whitehall, Rita (Gerald) McAvoy of Eastport, MI; 15 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; sister, Virginia Kovar of Saginaw, MI; many nieces, nephews, and cousins. She was also preceded in death by her son-in-law, Larry Mapes; sister, Clara Malkowski; and 2 brothers: Arthur and Lawrence. THE MASS OF CHRISTIAN BURIAL will be held 11:00 AM Wednesday, November 2, 2016 at St. Michael the Archangel Catholic Church with the Rev. Fr. Charles Hall presiding. VISITATON with the family will be from 5-8 PM Tuesday at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., (231) 759-8565 with the Rosary prayed at 7:30 PM. There will also be visitation one hour prior to the service at the church. Burial will take place in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
