Gerald C. "Jerry" Meyering's Obituary
Gerald C. “Jerry” Meyering of Muskegon went to be with his Lord and Savior, Friday, April 3, 2020 at The Poppen Hospice Residence. He was 81.
Jerry was born October 20, 1938 in Muskegon to Corneil “Neil” and Sophie (Schweissinger) Meyering and they preceded him in death. On October 7, 1960 in Muskegon he married Judith A. “Judie” Bolema and she preceded him in death on February 2, 2004.
Jerry attended Muskegon Heights Public Schools and later graduated from Western Michigan Christian High School. He went on to earn his associate’s degree from Muskegon Business College before joining his father as an insurance agent for State Farm Insurance. He was proud to be a State Farm Insurance Agent for nearly 60 years. He was a member of Calvin Christian Reformed Church.
When he wasn’t working Jerry could be found outdoors, usually hunting. His hunts took him all over North America, but many of those hours were spent hunting whitetail deer at his property. Jerry’s other interests varied from sponsoring state championship slow pitch softball teams to street and dirt track car racing to mention a few.
Although Jerry’s interests varied through his life, his love for the Lord and his family never did.
He is survived by two sons, Ross (Teri) Meyering, and Dean (Cindy) Meyering; grandchildren: Megan (Chris) Brinks, Blake Meyering, Nicholas Meyering; great-grandchildren: Harper and Chase Brinks; sister, Marion (Bob) Darrow; sisters-in-law, Patricia Bolema and Sharon Bolema; several nieces and nephews; and special friend, Mary Jane Wolffis.
In addition to his parents and wife, Judie he was preceded in death by brother-in-laws, Larry and Curtis Bolema and a nephew, Kevin Bolema.
Private family services were held. Burial will be at Maple Hill Cemetery in Cadillac. Services for Jerry at the Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral Homes will be announced at a later date.
In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Calvin Christian Reformed Church Youth Group or to the Muskegon Rescue Mission. An online guestbook is available at www.sytsemafh.com.
