Gerrit H. VanRandwyk's Obituary
Mr. Gerrit H. VanRandwyk, age 90, passed away Friday, October 24, 2014 in Haslett, MI. He was born on November 9, 1923 in Muskegon to Henry C. & Dora (Duiser) VanRandwyk. Gerrit married the former Evelyn Holtrop on May 13, 1949 in Muskegon, MI, and they moved to Okemos, MI in 1965. Gerrit worked for the Public Broadcasting Station WKAR at Michigan State University for 30 years before retiring. He was a Veteran of the U.S. Army, serving his country in WWII for the 75th Joint Assault Company. Gerrit was a member of River Terrace Christian Reformed Church in East Lansing. SURVIVORS include his daughter, Carol (Thomas E. Frazier) VanRandwyk; 3 grandchildren, Candace Marie (Michael Herrick) Cowen, Justin Gerrit Corey, and Steven Edward Corey; 1 great-granddaughter, Katherine Aurora Herrick; and brother, John VanRandwyk. Gerrit was also preceded in death by his daughter, Lyn Ruth Corey and son-in-law, Bruce Corey. SERVICES will be 11AM Tuesday at The Lee Chapel, 6291 S. Harvey St, 231-798-1100 with Pastor Sam Perry officiating. VISITATION with the family will be from 6-8PM Monday, and 1 hour prior to the service. MEMORIALS to the GRCC Foundation Corey-VanRandwyk Memorial Scholarship would be appreciated, and may be sent to GRCC Foundation, 143 Bostwick NE, Grand Rapids, MI 49503.
