Gertrude G. Townsend's Obituary
Gertrude G. “Gertie” Townsend, age 91, passed away on Wednesday, February 17, 2016 surrounded by her loving family. Gertie was born on September 13, 1924 to George and Grace (Wenting) Hartman in Muskegon. She graduated from Muskegon Heights High School with a school letter in gymnastics. Prior to her retirement in 1992, she worked as a mail clerk for 19 years at Fitzpatrick Electric. Gertie enjoyed spending time with all her children and grandchildren, was an avid knitter and enjoyed reading Harlequin romances. She was best known for her quick wit and sense of humor and will be greatly missed by her family and friends. A heartfelt “Thank You” to her friends and caregivers at Brookhaven. SURVIVORS include 6 children, Dale (Kathleen) Townsend, Linda (Clarence) Gundy, Joe (Bobbi) Townsend, Debra (John) Carlyle, Janis Morris and Gayle (Roger) Scanlon; 8 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; brother, George (Julia) Hartman; sisters, Beverly Morrell, Catherine Fox, Norma (Ronald) Cleveringa, Martha (Richard) Sears. She was preceded in death by her grandson, Brent Robert Scanlon and great-grandson, infant Trevor Jon Allen.
