Gladys Marie Dood's Obituary
Gladys Marie Dood (nee Wilson), age 88, of Greenfield, WI, passed away on February 6, 2016. She was born on October 2, 1927, in Fort Recovery, OH, the second of three children of John Huffman Wilson and Mathilda Caroline (Sunderhaus) Wilson. Gladys graduated from St. Mary’s High School in Muskegon. She married the late Jacob John Dood on May 29, 1954. Gladys loved her family and friends and enjoyed her time with them. She worked as a florist for many years and had a love for God’s nature. Some of her special memories included staying at the cottage with her sister and brother-in-law, living in Spain, traveling around the world while visiting with her brother and sister-in-law, and the many creative activities she enjoyed in Cincinnati. She was active in the Cincinnati Women’s Theatre where she wrote, directed or performed in numerous productions. In addition to the theatre, she enjoyed cooking and creating at a small restaurant for many years. Her soups were wonderful. Gladys had a kind, gentle, and giving spirit. Throughout her life she gave her time and skills to help others. Her volunteering included reading to children at inner-city schools, serving at soup kitchens, and distributing at food pantries. She is survived by her children, Michael (Sally) Dood of New Berlin, Wisconsin, Lawrence Dood of Romulus, Michigan, Daniel Dood (Beth Hilton) of Northville, Michigan, Peggy (Tim) Schoenheide of Orange Park, Florida; seven grandchildren, Sara Dood, Jacob Dood, Anna (Matthew) Oelerich, Drew Dood, Melissa Schoenheide, Zachary Schoenheide, and Bradley Schoenheide; sister Nellie Saxton; and many nieces and nephews. Gladys was preceded in death by her husband, Jacob, who passed away on May 27, 1971 and her brother, Leland Wilson, who passed away on July 30, 2014. Visitation will be held on Friday, February 12, 2016 from 5 PM to 8 PM at The Lee Chapel in Norton Shores, 6291 S. Harvey St., 231-798-1100. Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Saturday morning at 11:00 AM at St. Mary of the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church in Muskegon. Interment will be in Oakwood Cemetery in Muskegon. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you consider making a donation to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America.
