Mrs. Gloria V.C. Mish-Thompson's Obituary
Mrs. Gloria Veronica C. Mish-Thompson, 89, passed away early Monday, June 30, 2014. Born to Ernest and Mary Veronica (Woodard) Moore on June 2, 1925, she was a life resident of the Muskegon area. She attended Aquinas College, was a proud graduate of Michigan State University, and worked on a Master’s Degree in Education at Western Michigan University. She taught elementary school in Jackson, MI, and Skokie, IL before spending over 30 years with Muskegon Public Schools. Gloria married James I. Mish on August 20, 1949 in Muskegon, and he died in 1977. She later married Robert S. Thompson, Sr., who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Mish-Thompson was a life-long learner and encouraged her children to get an education and to travel as much as they could. She traveled to all 50 states and to Europe. Gloria was a member of many groups in the Muskegon area including St. Mary’s Altar Society, was a volunteer for the Hackley-Hume sites, and a former member of the teaching sorority, ADK. Gloria loved music and loved singing. Her SURVIVORS include six children: James V. (Anna) Mish of Signal Mountain, TN, Kyran (Jeanetta) Mish of Albuquerque, NM, Terrence (Janet) Mish of Southwick, MA, Veronica (Raymond) Muscat of North Muskegon, William “Bill” (Cheryl) Mish of Chattanooga, TN, and John (Patricia) Mish of Grand Rapids; 13 grandchildren; a sister, Gwen Roberts; and a brother, Lowell Moore. She was preceded in death by her parents; two husbands; a brother, Samuel Moore; and two sisters, Bonita Wootton and Ann Terese Witkowski. VISITATION will be 5-8 P.M. Thursday, July 3, 2014 at St. Mary’s of the Immaculate Conception Church, 239 W. Clay Ave., with Rev. Fr. Matthew J. Barnum as Presider, and interment in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
