My name is James Rather. I served in the US Navy in San Diego aboard the USS Sperry from 1969-1972. I recently found the Obituary for Gordy Secrest and I believe he may have served with me. If not I apologize for this email. If he is the Gordy Secrest I knew, he was a very good friend and shipmate. We shared an off ship apartment in San Diego for a few months. My name is Karen and I worked with Gordon and his father many years ago. Being new and working on a line was never boring as Gordon always has something funny to say or do.
My family lived a few door down from AGS and one day he promised my son he would take him for a ride on his bike. Of course, he kept his word and one day Gordon came down and took our son for a ride on his motorcycle. What a day that was and the smile on their faces was unreal. Our son never forgot that, he, and Mr. Gordy were friends.
Gordon invited us to stop by this home for Halloween. So we when over and as our son got closer the the porch, this voice said, “Hi Junior!” I could not stop laughing because Junior was about take the place apart looking for that voice.
There was the serious side when I had accident at work he was concerned but once I was OK, it was business as usually. He had a caring heart and kind spirit.
It was a year to remember and a part of my life I will never forget.
Mr. Gordon Secrest touched our lives and left a lasting memory.

I was saddened to hear of Gordon's passing. I worked with Gordy and his father for many years, and my wife and I spent many wonderful times at the Secrest family home, either smoking fish and grilling out. our memories have be instilled forever of the times spent with the entire Secrest family. My deepest sympathy goes out to the family. Gordy's smile is one that radiated to all. Blessings to the family and my prayers will be for you continued healing from your loss. Ed Black

So sorry to hear of your loss. Gordy was always in a good mood. I worked with him for 20 years at AGS and we had some great times. I always stopped to see him when I visited Michigan. He will be missed. May God be with you at this sad time and hold you in his loving arms for comfort.
