Gurney Lee Brower Sr.'s Obituary
Gurney L. Brower, Sr., age 82, passed away Tuesday, August 8, 2023 at his home. He was born February 3, 1941 in Carthage, NC to Houston and Myrtle (Thomas) Brower and lived most of his life in the Muskegon area. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army having served in the Vietnam War. On September 21, 1968, he married Earline Glover in Muskegon and she survives him. Gurney worked 30 years as an iron pourer for Campbell, Wyant & Cannon and retired in 1992. He was a longtime member of the former Jackson Hill Baptist Church where he also served as a deacon. Gurney was a lover of cars – especially any mechanical work he could do, like changing the oil or brakes. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and the great outdoors. Gurney especially loved to travel to North Carolina to visit family there. He will be greatly missed by his many family and friends. Survivors include his loving wife, Earline Brower; 3 children, Gurney L. Brower, Jr., Tracey Brower, Andre Quick; 3 grandsons, A’mon Brower, Tavion Brower, Arion Brower; 1 great-granddaughter, Amaya Brower; 1 brother, Calvin (Carrie) Brower; 3 sisters, Sarah Longmire, Selma (Ervin) Caddell, Flora (Ronnie) McClain; several nieces and nephews including a special nephew, Nathaniel (Tanita) Brower. Gurney was preceded in death by his parents; 1 brother, Vern Brower; and 2 sisters, Patricia Brower and Genevie Piggue. A Funeral Service will be held 1:00 PM Monday, August 14, 2023 at The Lee Chapel of Sytsema Funeral & Cremation Services, 6291 Harvey St., Norton Shores, MI 49444, with Pastor Coleman Gilliland officiating. Visitation will take place one hour prior to the service on Monday. Interment will take place at Restlawn Cemetery. Memorial Contributions may be directed to the Harbor Hospice Foundation.
