Helen Cassady's Obituary
Mrs. Helen Cassady, age 98, died Thursday, May 13, 2004 in Norton Shores. She was born December 28, 1905 in Detroit, MI to Michael and Magdeline (Church) Baum. Mrs. Cassady was the owner of Helen Kroeze’s Yarn Shop for 7 years where she found great joy in teaching children the art of knitting, embroidery, and other needle crafts. She was an active member of First Baptist Church where she was a diaconate, called on the elderly and shut-ins in her congregation, and was part of the Naomi Circle. Mrs. Cassady devoted herself to her family, friends and helping those in need while continuing to center her own life around her strong religious faith. She was survived by 2 children, Betty VanHaver, New York, NY, Robert G. (Paige) Friedman, Galveston, TX; 4 step-children; 2 grandchildren, Stefanie (Andy) Wright, J. Scott (Karen) Friedman, both of Texas; 9 step-grandchildren; 4 foster grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren, Baxter Robert Wright, Avalyn Paige, Ella Rose Friedman; and several step-great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by husbands Norman Friedman, 1943, Henry Kroeze, 1963, Leo Budnic, 1970, John Cassady, 1993; her parents; 1 son, Ronald Friedman; 2 grandsons, Steven and Scott Friedman; and 2 sisters, Eva Hartenstein and Emma Nichols. A FUNERAL SERVICE will be 11:00AM Monday, May 17, 2004 at First Baptist Church with Pastor John Brown officiating. Visitation will be 2-4pm and 7-9pm Sunday at Sytsema Funeral Homes, Inc., 737 Apple Ave., 231-726-5210. Interment will take place at Mona View Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to First Baptist Church Youth Ministry or The Red Cross.
