Helen Flickema's Obituary
Mrs. Helen Flickema, age 92, died Tuesday, December 2, 2003 in Spearfish, S.D. where she enjoyed a beautiful view of Black Hills from her window at the Dorsett Home where she lived for the last five years of her life. She was born to Thomas & Winifred (Keur) Olthoff and had been a life resident of Muskegon until moving to Howell, MI and then Spearfish S.D. She was a member of First Reformed Church where she married Orin “Flick” Flickema on September 26, 1935, and he preceded her in death on January 24, 1974. She was also preceded in death by an infant son, Paul, a great-granddaughter Brenna Flickema, a son-in-law, John Spangler, and four siblings, Janet Ridderman, Grace Westfield, Lois Arnouts, and Theodore Olthoff. SURVIVORS include one son, Dr. Thomas (Judy) Flickema of Spearfish, S.D., two daughters, Mary (Paul) Banninga of North Ft. Myers, FL, and Ruth Spangler of Brighton, MI. One of the greatest joys in Helen's life were her seven grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren. She also enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and was still doing crossword puzzles at the time of her death. Along with her husband, she had been very active in Band Parents at Angell School. Helen had been employed at Coles Bakery for 20 years prior to her retirement in 1964. GRAVESIDE SERVICES at Restlawn Cemetery will be held in Muskegon at a later date. Arrangements by
