Helen Elizabeth Shannon's Obituary
Mrs. Helen Elizabeth Shannon, age 95, passed away Tuesday, April 12, 2016. She was born in Muskegon on June 2, 1920 to Joseph and Helen (Vanderpool) Kesteloot. Helen was a member of St. Mary the Immaculate Conception Catholic Church where she was active with the Altar Society. She had worked as a school crossing guard at Nims School for 12 years before retiring in 2006. Helen was an avid Bingo player and was a dedicated Detroit Tigers and Detroit Red Wings fan. On September 23, 1948, Helen married Wilbert Shannon in Muskegon and he preceded her in death on March 7, 1988. She is survived by two sons, Michael (Cindi) Shannon of Kalamazoo, MI, and Thomas (Felisa) Shannon of Loraine, OH; son-in-law, Charles Kennedy; six grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to her husband, Helen was preceded in death by her daughter, Margie Ann Kennedy; son, Jim Shannon; her parents; two brothers; five sisters; and special friend, Fred Horan. VISITATION will be at The Walburn Chapel, 1547 W. Sherman Blvd., 231-759-8565 from 1-3 & 5-7 PM Friday, April 15, 2016 with the ROSARY prayed at 5 PM. Burial will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery.
