Helen was always a great neighbor. Helen would always say hello, smile and go on about her way. Helen mostly kept to herself and family , but if needed some help, wasn't afraid to ask. During the snowy months, we always kept Helen's sidewalks clean. She never came out and said thanks (not that she needed to), but always left a six pack of beer on the porch during the holiday season. I always knew it was Helen's way of thanking us for the help when her son couldn't be there. Helen also helped us take care of our young son when we needed a reliable babysitter. We will greatly miss Helen and hope that she rests in peace.

As the senior members of the family pass we their children take our place in the line of leadership and caretakers of the family name and our children. As a child I recall trips to Muskegon to visit my father's brothers and sisters. Helen was one we always went to see. We got to play with our cousins Ted and Carol. Over the years miles have separated us yet my wife and I had several opportunities to visit with Helen in Florida when she was staying with Thelma or in Muskegon when Thelma was staying with her. They were close sisters and being in their company was always a joy. On Friday may God be glorified in the funeral services and in the fellowship of family and friends of Helen; and may God comfort the children and grandchildren of the Vanderleest family.
